BRIAN EVANS HAS SPENT THE LAST 25 YEARS MASTERING THE ART OF HAIR COLOR. Changes in technique,pattern and technology have kept this well respected colorist busy servicing the constantly changing needs of his very loyal clientele. Brian took a minute to chat with us about some of the realities of hair color and of course the most popular technique of the year, Balayage.
The NB-You must see clients change their color a lot over the years. How do you navigate that?
Brian- Understanding hair trends and the lifestyle changes of my clients, I use the best products with the highest quality ingredients that will allow me to transition them into a new look with the lowest amount of stress to their hair.
The NB-What’s the biggest color movement of the moment?
Brian-The evolution of highlighting has brought us to Balayage, which is more of a sweeping technique. I am doing fewer root to end sectioning and instead dragging new color at various points along the hairline. It’s a more natural look at the root. A softer more impressionistic contrast throughout.
The NB- What’s the optimum situation if you want this type of color done?
Brian- This color is best for someone who wants to add some texture with color and want to keep it low maintenance.
The NB-What’s the worst situation?
Brian-My “Power Blonde” clients, they love the idea of the look but in the end they want to see full blonde at the roots.
